Anupama Parameswaran said that multiple social media accounts were created to circulate morphed photos of her and spread false allegations involving her, her family, and close friends. First, she thought it was casual trolling, but it soon turned out to be a coordinated attempt at defamation.
Anupama said, “A few days ago, it came to my notice that an Instagram profile was circulating extremely inappropriate and false content about me, my family, and even tagging my friends and co-stars.” She wrote this on a detailed post, sharing it on Instagram on Sunday morning. The posts included morphed pictures and baseless allegations, and it was deeply distressing for her to witness such targeted harassment online. In the post, she also wrote that further investigation revealed that multiple fake accounts with the sole intention of spreading hate by posting and commenting malicious comments on every post related to her.
Anupama further expressed, “Upon becoming aware of this, I immediately filed a complaint with the cybercrime police in Kerala. Their response was prompt and efficient, and with their assistance, the person behind these activities was identified.
Overall, actors’ photos are frequently targeted in cybercrime for identity theft, financial scams, and online harassment. Anupama Parameswaran, with the cooperation, was successful in identifying the woman responsible for the crime.
