YouTube Down: Major Outage Disrupts Streaming and Uploads for Millions of Users Worldwide

YouTube’s service suddenly stopped on 15 October. According to a website called Down Detector, which tracks such technical glitches, more than 3 lakh users had lodged complaints till that time. This is considered to be the biggest glitch on YouTube in recent months.

According to the Down Detector report, 56 % users faced problems in video streaming, 32% had trouble with the mobile app, and 12% could not even open the website. Many users reported that videos were not uploading. Search results were not showing, and comments were missing. Some people also received repeated logout messages.

The outage was spread across the United States, but its impact was more visible in some states. Major cities like Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, New York, Washington, and Detroit faced the problem of outages. This was not a local problem but a major technical fault.

The YouTube service was also disrupted simultaneously in India and the UK. People were not able to play a video on YouTube. As soon as they opened the app, an error occurred, and even logging in to the website was not possible. As soon as YouTube went down, there was an uproar on social media. The # YouTubeDown started trending on Twitter (X). People were sharing screenshots and expressing their disappointment. Several content creators stated that they could not upload or schedule new videos.

It was seen in the graph of Down Detector that complaints started increasing rapidly from 5:00 am onwards. Within a few minutes, more than 3 lakh reports were registered. Usually, this figure remains less than 50, which clearly shows that this was not a minor problem.

So far, YouTube has not issued any official statement regarding the YouTube Down incident.
