Aamir Khan Reflects on Laal Singh Chaddha’s Failure

Aamir Khan has given two decades of blockbusters consecutively. Though he experienced some setbacks with Thugs of Hindostan (2018) and Laal Singh Chaddha (2022). Aamir Khan recently disclosed on what went wrong with Laal Singh Chaddha.

He said that the script is from the original Forrest Gump script, which is not mainstream.

For mainstream writing, you need to have a clear premise. But Laal Singh’s premise is a question, but it should be a statement.

He said that the movie was made in a way that posed a question to the audience, but left it unanswered. He added that the screenplay of the movie was misunderstood. We did not follow the plot points in a streamlined way. The goal of the film Laal Singh is shown as his desire to marry Rupa (Kareena Kapoor). The audience doesn’t see any other goal of the protagonist in the film.

The actor said, “I became a little overconfident with Laal Singh Chadha because I had delivered too many back-to-back hits. That is where I went wrong.” Aamir Khan explained that he evaluates every film from a monetary perspective to ensure it at least avoids losses. However, this approach was not applied to his last release.

He expressed, “When you know your film will earn Rs 120 crore, you can keep your budget up to Rs 80 crore, maximum. Ideally, it should have been Rs 50 – 60 crore. However, we ended up spending Rs 200 crore.”

He also said that he continued paying his team through the COVID–19 lockdown and that increased the costs.

Overall, the film has grossed Rs 133.5 crore worldwide.
