Dharmendra No More: Cinema Mourns the Loss of a Warm Soul and Timeless Icon

Dharmendra passed away today at the age of 89. He had been unwell for a month. He was one of the greatest icons of Indian cinema. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Indian cinema.

There was a time when films used to run in the name of Dharmendra. He was the He-Man of Bollywood who worked in more than 300 films. he ruled the Hindi film industry for decades. He also tried his hand at politics. He was also a Lok Sabha MP from Bikaner from 2004 to 2009 from the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Dharmendra was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2012. People can never forget his role in Sholay, the pair of Jai and Veeru with Amitabh Bachan took this film to different heights. He was not only an action hero, but his comedy roles showed his talent.

Dharmendra ruled Bollywood for a long time. He started as an actor, then established himself as a producer and director. The Deol family has a distinct identity and credibility. He was widely considered one of the greatest, most handsome, and commercially successful film stars. He was married to Prakash Kaur and actress Hema Malini until his death.

In an interview, Salman Khan said that Dharmendra is the only person he has consistently followed after his father; he admires Dharmendra even more than Dharmendra’s own sons do. In 2020, he was honoured with a “Lifetime Achievement Award” by the state of New Jersey in United States for recognising the actor’s immeasurable contribution to Hindi Cinema.
