There is an incident that Dharmendra told in a conversation with the BBC that when he came to Mumbai to become an actor, he had only one wish. His wish was to meet Dilip Kumar. One day, Dharmendra met an editor named LP Rao somewhere. A woman was standing nearby. The editor asked him, do you know him. So, Dharmendra asked who? So, the editor replied She is Dilip Kumar’s sister and her name is Farida.

After listening to this, Dharmendra went to her and, after much hesitation, said very softly, “I am a big fan of Dilip Sahab. Just let me meet him once.” Then Farida ji told him to come tomorrow evening at 8.30. This happened in 1960. Dharmendra arrived the next day. Dilip ji used to live in Pale Hill, Mumbai. Dharmendra was so eager to meet Dilip ji that he forgot to wear sweater. When Dilip Kumar saw him without a sweater, he entered the room and brought a sweater for him, and gave it to Dharmendra. Then Dharmendra said that he wouldn’t return the sweater to Dilip Kumar. Dilip Kumar told him to keep the sweater.
