Selvamani Selvaraj’s Kaantha Faces Court Case as MKT’s Grandson Challenges Dulquer’s Portrayal
Kaantha movie is directed by Selvamani Selvaraj and it is releasing on November 14, 2025. The main actor in the movie is Dulquer Salman. He plays the role of T. K. Mahadevan. The movie is a murder mystery set in the 1950s and also features Rana Daggubati and Bhagyashri Borse.Legendary actor and musician MTK’s grandson, B. Thiagarajan, has filed a petition in the Chennai court against Kaantha.
B. Thiagarajan alleged that the film presents a completely false portrayal of his grandfather. He objected to the scenes showing Dulquer’s character smoking and living an immortal life. The petition states that the filmmakers neither informed them about the story nor sought their permission before depicting a story resembling #MTK’s life.
on March 1, 1910, in Mayala, a city in Tamil Nadu, MKT Mayavaram Krishnaswamy Thyagaraja, a Carnatic scholar, was born. He was an expert in Carnatic music, first as a singer and then as a stage actor. He made 14 films and 10 blockbuster hits. He became the first generation of superstars in India. Soon, he went down the path of devotion, and his health deteriorated.
MKT died of a stroke. Recently, his grandson came to the high court and filed a complaint saying that this movie is an MKT story. He added that the family’s permission was not taken before portraying the story. In the movie, he was shown as a man who is full of ego and someone who is hateful.
Thiagarajan claimed that MKT was never blind, and that he remained a devout, charitable, teetotalling figure who enjoyed enormous respect in Tamil Nadu. He continued to live a dignified and financially stable life until he died in 1959.
