The Telugu-language devotional epic Kannappa is directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh. Vishnu Manchu stars as Thinnadu and Preity Mukhundhan as Nemali. Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, and Madhoo also play key roles. The film was released theatrically on 27 June 2025.
Story of the Movie Kannappa
At the beginning of the movie kannappa, God Shiva and Goddess Parvati are shown. Shiva promised, on the sacrifice of Shri Srikalahasteeswara, that Kalyug would be established there, and that it would also become a pilgrimage site worshipped by all. People would gain knowledge of the Vayu Linga, and their way of thinking would be transformed. But God Shiv had not fulfilled this promise till now. Then, God Shiva says about his new devotee, Thrina.God Shiva says that Thrina will establish the Vayu Linga, and he will spread its knowledge.Thrina is shown in the movie as a brave kid.
One day, the people of his tribe sacrifice Thinna’s friend to please their family’s deity. Thinna loved his friend and was saddened by the incident. Moreover, his mother was also not alive. Thrine doesn’t believe in God. He wonders why God would want to kill his friends. He was against the tribal sacrificial practice. But the people in the village felt that only the goddess could stop the spread of deadly disease in the village. Due to this fight starts between Thinna and the villagers. His father never tried to change Thinna’s way. After 25 years, Thinna grows up, but he doesn’t trust God. He had decided that he wouldn’t allow anyone to kill anyone for sacrifice in the village, though he helped villagers. He was wandering in the village when he saw Nemali, and he fell in love with her.
Nemali was a devotee of lord Shiva, but that doesn’t make any difference to him. However, Nemali finds him strange, and so she leaves him and goes away. Nemali was the daughter of a queen who was not interested in governance. She also gets visions of Vayu Linga in her dreams. Now, Vayu Lingam is worshipped by Mahadev Shastri. He is very proud of his descendants. He believes that people of his lineage are not impure.
Mahadev Shastri doesn’t want anyone’s shadow to fall on Vayu Linga. When Thinna is surrounded by some strange people who ask him about Vayu Linga, he tells them about it. But on their way, they see some girls and try to harm them. So, he rushes there and kills them. One of the 25 men who was still alive tells him and now a man will come with the army and kill everyone.
After that Kālamukha enters the scene who wants Vayu Linga at any cost. When he hears about his brothers death, he takes his army to get Vayu Linga. Thinna tells that the people of the five tribes should unite to fight against Kālamukha’s army. Thinna leads the five tribes. A woman comes into the picture who used to scare villagers, reminding them of goddess’s wrath. But then her plan to get her daughter married to Thinna comes into light. She urges everyone to sacrifice a boy, to which Tinna objects.
Thinna tries to convince everyone not to offer this sacrifice and reveals the true intention of the women. But the tribal heads disapprove of Thinna. He comes to know that Nimli’s mother wants her to marry a king. Thinna defeats that king and is about to kill that king. Seeing all this, the villagers get angry and refuse to fight any war with Thinna. Now Thinna is no longer king of the tribe.
Goddess Parvati asks God Shiva how Thinna can become a devotee of Shiva. God Shiva told that Thinna is Arjun of Dwapar Yuga in his previous birth. When he realized that only God Shiva could defeat him. God Shiva shows him his true form. But, Arjun wanted freedom from his life and asked God how he could get salvation, to which God Shiva says that in the next birth he has to call Shiva’s name with a true heart. God Shiva tells that in this lifetime Thinna will take the name of lord Shiva from his heart.
Nemali and Thinna get married and start living life away from everyone. Kālamukha’s army comes and defeats the tribes. Thinna’s father calls everyone on the side of the Sethu River because that was the way to reach Vayu Linga. Meanwhile, Thinna senses that his father is in trouble. Thinna decides to defeat Kālamukha before giving fire to his father’s body. Thinna overpowers Kālamukha’s army. He kills the king of the army and scatters them.
Then comes the day of Mahashivratri, when Nemali worships God Shiva and prepares kheer for him. She doesn’t cook anything, but when Thinna comes home and finds nothing to eat, he eats the food offered to God Shiva. But Nemali doesn’t allow him to eat kheer. Thinna goes hunting to find something to eat and challenges God Shiva to stop him from eating. God Shiva sends Rudra. Rudra talks to Mahadev Shastri and tells him not to hide Vayu Linga. Then Rudra explains to Nemali that she shouldn’t have kept her husband hungry. Then Rudra goes to Thinna, who doesn’t find a single prey after hunting for the entire day.
Rudra tells Thinna to take the name of God because only God could feed him. Then there is a fight between Thinna and Rudra. Thinna is unable to defeat Rudra. The king, who wanted to marry Nemali, gains consciousness and finds Nemali, and plays the drum made by Thinna for his wife. Insects near the Vayu Linga turn into a big spider, a snake, and an elephant. They eat the kind, and the elephant takes Nemali away.
When Thinna reaches there, he finds traces of wild animals. Then Rudra asks Thinna to take the name of God Shuva to save Nemali. Finally, Thinna takes the name of God Shiva. He tries to lift Vayu Linga to take it home. He feels the presence of God Shiva and feels peaceful and happy.
One day when Thinna was seen offering meat to Vayu Linga he is seen by Mahadev Shastri. Mahadev Shastri arrests him and beats him for polluting the Vayu Linga. Thinna saw that Vayu Linga’s eyes were bleeding. He takes out his eyes and puts them on Vayu Linga, which surprises everyone. Seeing this, Shiva appears and cures Thinna’s eyes and gives him salvation.
