
Online Gaming Bill 2025 Introduced by Ashwini Vaishnav
Union minister Ashwini Vaishnav introduced a bill to ban online gaming played with money. He declared that the proposed legislation will promote eSports and social gaming and make India as a global game development hub.
Online money gaming has become a serious social and public health issue. It has led to addiction and financial losses. It has also increased the risk of fraud and scams. Hence, the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill is a critical step to ban facilitation and advertising of online games. He added that such application have even led to the spread of identity theft.
“Our endeavour is to promote esports and social gaming, online social gaming, and we would like India to become a game-making hub. For that a lot of efforts are already being made,” said Ashwini Vaishnaw.
“Two segments, esports and social online gaming are good for society will be promoted. These two will get legal recognition. And this bill will create an authority which basically creates programs and schemes which promotes e-sports and online social gaming”, said the minister.
He said that online money gaming is causing harm to society. He stressed the fact that the WHO has classified a new disease called online gaming disorder, which causes anxiety, depression, and sleep problems. It leads to compulsive behaviour and psychological distress, and also causes serious issues in family and social life. Middle-class families have lost their entire life savings because of that. Many people have also committed suicide because of online money gaming he added.
The Indian gaming market will grow worth $3.6billion by 2029. The Indian apps that are expected to impacted by the online gaming bill 2025 are: Dream11, Mobile Premier League, My11Circle, Howzat, WinZO, Games24x7, Junglee Games, PokerBaazi and GamesKraft.
