Sonam Bajwa Speaks About Childhood Struggles
Sonam Bajwa said that during her childhood, she faced gender discrimination at home. She was not allowed to go out of the house and play, while her brother had no such restriction. When she grew up, she wasn’t even allowed to stand on the railing of the terrace. Furthermore, she wasn’t even allowed to pick up a landline phone in her house. She also said that her father was extremely strict.
She narrated an incident that one day she was going to school with her friend, and a guy came and asked her what the time was. Sonam and her friend looked at him, and his eyes were red. They just nodded and walked away, sensing that something was wrong. When she came home and told her mother about the incident, she was terrified. Her mother told her not to talk to strangers. So, this was the kind of protective parenting Sonam got.
Sonam Reflected on Her Stay in Delhi
Sonam opened up about her time in Delhi. One day, she went out of her PG to buy milk when two guys came on a bike, grabbed her bag, and rode away. She refrained from using buses in Delhi, and if she ever took a rickshaw, it was strictly in daylight hours.
Fake Instagram Accounts
She spoke about the fake Instagram profiles created in her name. She said that such people are of a disturbed mindset. She said that even if a guy morphs a girl’s picture and replaces it with a nude one, not many parents will openly speak about it, as they are concerned about the girl’s security.
She told about a shocking incident that during the lockdown, some people were bullying her online, they took their picture and morphed it. They were just 17 to 18 years old, so they didn’t want to take any legal action against them. She added that they were disturbed people. In spite of having a choice, she didn’t do anything, and later on, the boys apologized.
In the end, she gave a message to her 16-year-old self, “It’s going to be all right. Don’t lose hope. And God has better plans for you.” She also expressed her intention of having a more inclusive society.
