Assamese Icon Zubeen Garg Dies in Singapore Scuba Diving Accident at 52.

            Assamese heartthrob Zubeen Garg passed away in Singapore after a scuba diving accident on September 19. Zubeen was rushed to a hospital after being rescued from the sea by Singapore police. He was then placed in the intensive care unit and was continuously monitored, but he did not recover.

            The accident occurred when he went for a seaside adventure sport and fell into the sea. He was in Singapore and was supposed to perform at the Northeast Festival, an annual event that takes place in different countries of Southeast Asia, promoting Northeast India. On 19 September, he had gone with a few members of the Assam Association of Singapore and with a few others for a seaside adventure sport. Unfortunately, a freak accident happened there, and he fell into the sea. The rescuers rescued him, and CPR was given on the spot. He was rushed to a medical facility in Singapore and was in the ICU, but he passed away.

               The 52-year-old singer and actor was in Singapore for a music festival. Zubeen Garg rose to fame in 1992 with his debut album ‘Anamika’. This album was released when he was only 19 years old. The same album made him a household name in Assam. He was famous for his blockbuster song ‘Ya Ali’.

              Over the years, he built a successful career in both music and films, singing in Assamese, Hindi, Bengali, and several other Indian languages. He also acted and directed several films during his illustrious career. His recent notable work includes ‘Bhaimonda’ which was released earlier this year and received wide attention.

            News of his sudden death has left fans across Assam and beyond in shock. He was the one whom the younger generation of the Northeast has followed for years. He was a part and parcel of the social life in the Northeast.
